"Viola" Abalone hoop earrings

Hoop earrings crafted from polished natural abalone shell. The iridescent colors emerging from the pearl layer are captured within a motif of overlapping violet petals. Three layered pieces sway subtly, sparkling with chic rainbow hues. 

suHa's abalone pieces are crafted by hand-shaving away the hard, undulating outer surface to carefully polish the pearl layer beneath. To uncover the deep iridescent born from the pearl layer's thickness, the work of finishing each piece to its full thickness along the shell's natural curve relies on the artisan's touch—a task machines cannot perform. We carefully stock the irregular small fragments that arise during production.

The “Viola” earrings breathe new life into these fragments. They fully utilize the beauty of life nurtured over long periods, responding to the request: “What if there were small earrings that swayed subtly...”

A natural abalone shell arrived from Oki Island. It is a large, thick shell that is over 10 years old.

We use only abalone shells that have spawned multiple times and are over 14cm in length. Considering that the shell length limit in most production areas is around 10cm, 14cm abalone shells are difficult to obtain. We believe that by selecting large abalone and finding value in the shells, we can sustainably coexist with them and make the most of their life.
